Pontiac Starter Part Numbers

This is a high performance starter.

Picture above shows the starter part number and the date code.
(among other data)

The date code is read as the 1st digit is for the Year - 1 equals 1961 or 1971 or 1981, 2 equals 1962 or 1972 or 1982, etc.
The year decade (1960's or 1970's or 1980's) would be determined by the starter number.

The starter part numbers would be different for a 1961 or the 1971 starter for example.

The letter is for the month - A equals January, B equals February, C equals March, etc.

The last one or two digits are for the day (spaced close together)

There may be a space and another number - 1 in this case
(not sure what it represents possibly line starter made on?)

1B1 1 decodes as 1 - 1971, B - Feb, 1 - 1st day
February 1, 1971

It appears the starters were dated 1B1 1 for many of them.
1B1 1 date code stands for Feb. 1 of 1971!
